A controversial prediction from a Nigerian clergy member who is well-known for predicting the victory of President William Ruto in the 2022 elections is now echoing across the political scene of Kenya. The prophet predicts that the incumbent will face difficulties in the 2027 elections.
Primate Elijah Ayodele, the head of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church in Nigeria, has once again made his way into the Kenyan news with a new prophecy that indicates turbulent political times for Ruto in the near future.
In a statement released earlier this week, Ayodele warned that disloyalties and political difficulties might really hinder Ruto’s re-election, and thus he called for alertness in the presidency and among the loyalists as the elections draw near.
The revelation is especially important because of the prophet’s prior assertion of having foretold Ruto’s win in 2022, a prediction that was widely reported by the national media at the time. That earlier prophecy helped to form the view among some political analysts that Ayodele was—albeit controversially—a reliable indicator of the changing electoral dynamics in Kenya.
In his most recent communication, Ayodele does not mention direct threats but highlights the chances of an increase in political conflict, loss of support in crucial areas, and betrayals in the ruling party as possible scenarios.
His aides reworded the prophet’s warning as a signal for Ruto to be ready for unforeseen political troubles and to strengthen his ties if he wishes to win a second term.
In Kenya, political analysts had varying opinions about this. A few claimed that such declarations made by prophets, irrespective of their supernatural aspect, tell about the fears of the ruling coalition as the opposition is getting ready for 2027. Others think that spiritual predictions have no bearing on the actual election outcomes.
Nevertheless, the prophet’s word has already stirred up a lot of arguments in the online and offline media, with many people speculating on the political ties’ durability and on Ruto’s next strategic move to secure his election.
The political scene will continue to change as the parties and their supporters come to terms with the latest warning and reevaluate their political strategies.
