The government of Kenya has indicated a significant change of direction in its policy that might lead to the situation in which the government will not rescue and repatriate people who travel or work in foreign countries with unstable conditions by automatic funding anymore. As part of this trifling, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made the asking of families for Kenyans waiting for repatriation to make their own return arrangements instead of relying on state support.
The announcement has been made while the government is still in the process of repatriating hundreds of Kenyans from conflict-affected areas and from Southeast Asia, which is the area of the world where scam compounds have left citizens stranded in extremely unsafe conditions due to job networks that are fraudulent. The government has said that while it will continue to support with humanitarian assistance the genuine cases of trafficking and exploitation, it will no longer be the case that those who voluntarily take the risk of being abroad will also be the ones getting reimbursed for their return.
Denouncing the problems of moral hazard and unsustainable financial rescue, Korean officials have been emphasizing the need for safe migration on the part of the travelers and also for compliance with the regulations on travel advisories for all Kenyan travelers.
