In a heart-wrenching incident this evening, a bus ferrying mourners on the Kisumu–Kakamega road overturned at the notorious Coptic Roundabout, leaving at least 21 people dead and several others injured.Nyanza Regional Traffic Commander Peter Maina confirmed that the vehicle, belonging to a local high school, veered off the road after the driver allegedly lost control, crossing into the opposite lane before crashing into a ditch and flipping over.

Eyewitnesses reported a scene of utter chaos: passengers were violently ejected from the vehicle at impact.Among the deceased are 10 women, 10 men, and a 10-year-old girl, a grim reminder of the human cost of the disaster.

At least five people sustained serious injuries, while 15 others, including minors, suffered minor wounds. All injured are currently receiving treatment at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH).

The bus was reportedly transporting mourners returning from a funeral when tragedy struck near 5 p.m. As investigations into the crash begin, attention is already mounting over the use of school-owned vehicles for private functions—a controversial practice raising safety concerns among road safety advocates.—
