Moses Kuria, a senior advisor at State House, has publicly criticized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. He attributed the political turmoil he faces to Gachagua’s own decisions.
Kuria claims that Gachagua ignored his advice about political alliances and strategies, which has led to his current predicament. This criticism comes amidst discussions of a potential impeachment motion against Gachagua. Various leaders are expressing their discontent with his leadership.
Kuria specifically pointed out that he had warned Gachagua. He advised him against entering a political pact with President William Ruto without a political party. He suggested that this would diminish his influence within the government.
Despite Kuria’s offers of support, Gachagua chose to pursue his own agenda. This included the use of his political outfit. Kuria believes this agenda has backfired. The tension between the two has escalated, with Kuria accusing Gachagua of attempting to undermine him within the government.
In a letter to Gachagua, Kuria highlighted the Deputy President’s failure to communicate. He has not spoken with key leaders from the Mount Kenya region. This lack of communication was about important government appointments.
This lack of transparency has reportedly eroded Gachagua’s trust and support among these leaders, further complicating his political standing. Kuria’s remarks suggest that Gachagua’s isolation within the political landscape is largely self-inflicted.
As Gachagua faces mounting pressure and calls for unity within the Mount Kenya region, his leadership is increasingly questioned. A recent meeting of 48 Members of Parliament showed a shift in support towards Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki. He is seen as a more reliable link to the Executive. This development underscores the growing discontent with Gachagua’s leadership and the potential for significant political changes ahead.
