A girl in Baringo Central lost her life after an unknown vehicle struck her near Seretunin junction along Kabarnet-Kabartonjo Road
The vehicle was traveling from Kabarnet to Kabartonjo, as confirmed by Seretunin Chief Patrick Kiprop.
The driver, believed to be under the influence, reportedly fled the scene by speeding away after hitting the girl on Tuesday afternoon, Kiprop told KNA via phone.
The young girl was trying to cross the road on her way to church, where she was to join other Sunday school kids for final rehearsals of songs and drama intended for presentation that evening during an overnight vigil to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, he mentioned.
“This is a tragic incident because everyone is eager to celebrate Christmas joyfully, yet we have lost a young Kenyan due to the recklessness of a driver,” the chief stated.
Kiprop urged all road users, particularly motorists, to exercise caution and refrain from driving under the influence of any substances that could impair their judgment while traveling during this busy holiday season.
The administrator encouraged parents and guardians to closely supervise and instruct children on how to behave safely during this festive period.
“It is the wish of every person to celebrate both the birth of Jesus and the New Year, and everyone must be mindful of the safety and well-being of others,” Kiprop remarked.
The Seretunin Chief, however, indicated that the location of the vehicle and the fleeing driver are still unknown, but police are conducting an investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, the girl’s body was taken to the Baringo County Referral Hospital mortuary.
