Naivasha was plunged into mourning on Sunday night as a devastating road crash wiped out an entire family in a catastrophic head-on collision. The horrific accident, which unfolded around 9 PM along the treacherous Naivasha-Longonot Highway, involved a family vehicle and a massive long-distance truck—leaving behind nothing but wreckage and heartbreak.
Four family members died on the spot, their lives cut short in an instant as their car was mangled beyond recognition near High Peak School. The victims had been returning home from a memorial service when their journey turned into a nightmare.
But the tragedy didn’t end there. Three young children, initially pulled from the wreckage and rushed to Naivasha Level Four Hospital, fought for their lives in critical condition. Desperate calls for an emergency ambulance to transfer them to a better-equipped facility went unanswered. In a cruel twist of fate, the children succumbed to their injuries before help could arrive.

Road safety advocacy group Sikika Road Safety sounded the alarm immediately after the crash, pleading with the public to help locate the victims’ relatives. Later, in a desperate attempt to save the injured children, Sikika issued an urgent appeal for an ambulance—but time ran out.
“This vehicle was involved in a head-on crash with a trailer on the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road. Four people died on the scene, and the injured children were rushed to Naivasha Level 4 Hospital,” the organization reported.
By Monday morning, the grim reality had set in—the children, too, had passed away. The tragic loss has reignited urgent concerns over the deadly stretch of highway, notorious for its history of fatal crashes.
This accident echoes a chilling past. Just last year, a similar crash on June 8 claimed ten lives when a trailer lost control and rammed into a fully occupied matatu near Mai Mahiu town.
