The Resignation Ultimatum: Senator Demands Heads of Kanja and Murkomen After Kitengela Killing

The political consequences from the deadly shooting of 28-year-old Vincent Ayomo have reached an extreme point when Nominated Senator Onyati Kibagendi issued his demand for Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to step down from their positions.

The demand, which reached extremely high volumes, creates a complete political breakdown that follows the violent events that occurred at the Kitengela “Linda Mwananchi” rally and has now reached the legislative chambers of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Kibagendi demands accountability, which serves as an objective assessment of national security and political discourse in Kenya. The Senator has pointedly linked the death of Ayomo to a systemic failure of leadership, which resulted in police service under Kanja operating as a dangerous weapon that attacks citizens instead of protecting them.

The resignation of CS Murkomen from his position will create a “twisted” situation because government officials face allegations of inciting state violence through their public statements.

The Senator’s position about the Kitengela story considers important developments that have shaped this situation. While the public has focused on the man who pulled the trigger, Kibagendi is targeting the “architects of the environment” that allowed the trigger to be pulled.

He argues that Vincent Ayomo’s blood has made Kanja and Murkomen unfit for their positions because their ongoing office presence disrespects the bereaved family and violates the Kenyan constitution.

The current situation has evolved beyond a typical opposition complaint. Kibagendi presents his case as a moral crisis because he believes that the “Linda Mwananchi” movement has transformed from an anti-price protest into a struggle against a government that he describes as “eating its own children.”

The government faces a dilemma because rising staff deaths and continuous legislative attacks have created a situation in which high-ranking officials are required to leave their positions. The Senate established an unambiguous statement that Kitengela life requires payment through the employment of top-ranking officials.
