The Member of Parliament for Embakasi East, Babu Owino, made an explosive accusation against the Ministry of Interior official Raymond Omollo. The lawmaker claims that a violent confrontation at the Kisumu International Airport was not a spontaneous civilian outburst but a state-sponsored tactical ambush designed to eliminate opposition voices.
At this high-security international airport the conflict shows its “twisted” character because of its chosen location. Owino alleges that the PS utilized state resources to mobilize and embed “goons” within the terminal’s restricted zones to disrupt his arrival alongside other “Linda Mwananchi” leaders. The accusation indicates a major gap in aviation security because political operatives now possess the ability to defeat metal detectors and security cordons to attack legislators.
According to Owino, the chaos that erupted as he landed was a premeditated strike meant to serve as a “warning shot” to those challenging the current administration’s fiscal policies. The MP’s account of events shows that political competition has become a dangerous battle between two factions from the “deep state” who use street-level violence to fight each other.
He insists that the fingerprints of the Interior Ministry are all over the logistics of the Kisumu skirmish, pointing to the selective inaction of police officers stationed at the airport during the heat of the attack.
The public call-out of a principal secretary demonstrates how the executive and legislative branches of government have entered into an escalating conflict. By naming Omollo specifically, Owino has removed the veil of anonymity usually granted to high-ranking bureaucrats, placing the blame for regional instability squarely on the doorstep of the national security apparatus.
Kisumu remains a tinderbox of political tension because this latest revelation shows that the battle for the 2027 landscape has moved from the podium to the tarmac. If Owino’s claims hold weight, the Kisumu International Airport incident represents a total breakdown of the rule of law, where the very guardians of national safety are accused of being the architects of political violence.
The question now remains: who actually controls the security checkpoints at our country’s airports?
