A Tesla Cybertruck erupted in flames and exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday, resulting in the death of the driver and injuries to seven others. Authorities, including the FBI, are investigating to determine if the explosion was an act of terrorism.
Videos captured by witnesses showed the Cybertruck engulfed in flames while parked outside the hotel, with the explosion causing panic among onlookers.
The incident occurred just hours after a separate tragedy in New Orleans, where a truck drove into a crowd celebrating New Year’s Day, resulting in 15 fatalities.
The Trump International Hotel, owned by the Trump Organization, is linked to President-elect Donald Trump, who will assume office on January 20. Tesla CEO Elon Musk, a vocal supporter of Trump during the 2024 campaign, is also an adviser to the incoming administration.
Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department emphasized the unusual circumstances of the event, saying, “A Cybertruck and the Trump hotel are key elements that raise significant questions.”
FBI Special Agent in Charge Jeremy Schwartz addressed the ongoing investigation, stating, “We are working diligently to determine whether this incident qualifies as an act of terrorism.”
Schwartz also confirmed the driver of the rented Cybertruck, which originated in Colorado, has been identified, but their name has not yet been disclosed.
