Ten people succumb in Njoro-Molo road crash

Ten people have died in a road accident involving a crash between a 14-seater matatu and a lorry in Arimi area along the Njoro -Molo road on Thursday evening.

John Mureithi the survivor reported that he was traveling from Nyahururu to Molo in the lorry when the accident occured.

He also said,”from a distance we noticed that the matatu tire had a burst so the driver could not control it and crashed into the lorry. The lorry driver was also hurt but I escaped without injuries.”

Elburgon Ward representative Njuguna Mwaura, responded by ensuring that several other passengers had been rushed to hospital.

“I counted about ten bodies including of a high school student.”Njuguna said.

It is not yet certain if the matatu suffered break failure that caused it to roll on the road as it was traveling downhill. It’s impact was so severe that some bodies were mutilated, the survivors were taken to Molo hospital according to the reports.

The Kenya Red cross members also responded by helping retrieve the trapped bodies inside the wreckage.

Njuguna’s speculations were also that the design and current condition of the road may have contributed to the cause of the accident.

In Njuguna’s statement he urged KENHA to reconsider the design of the section of the road as there are several bends and deep potholes.
