South African Woman Officer Allegedly Killed by Boyfriend

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has announced burial arrangements for Constable Ramaabele Sophy Mothapo, who was allegedly killed by her boyfriend.

Mothapo was shot by John Manyaba on Christmas Eve at her residence in Lotus Gardens, Pretoria. Following the incident, Manyaba fled in the victim’s vehicle to Limpopo province, where he was eventually apprehended.

Isaac Mahamba, spokesperson for the Tshwane Metro Police Department, stated that Mothapo’s funeral will take place on Saturday in Hweleshaneng Village, Limpopo. She would have celebrated her 40th birthday in March and began her career with the Tshwane Metro Police Department as a student Constable on December 1, 2013, becoming a full Constable on December 1, 2015.

“At the time of her passing, she was serving in the Tactical Unit, dedicated to the department, the City of Tshwane, and the community,” Mahamba noted.

“The TMPD stands in solidarity during this difficult time; our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones as they cope with this significant loss. “

Mahamba mentioned that the suspect was scheduled to appear in court on December 30, but the case has since been transferred to Pretoria, where it is expected to be heard on January 3, with Manyaba facing a murder charge.

Limpopo police reported that 11 people were killed over a three-day period, with most murders believed to be domestic-related.
