Siaya Shock: Police Officer Found Dead by Roadside in Rarieda.

A wave of alarm has hit Rarieda after the brutal killing of a police constable, whose mutilated body was discovered dumped by the roadside, only two kilometres from his own police station. The incident has intensified fears over rising violence targeting law enforcement officers.

Gruesome Discovery at Dawn

At first light today, another officer patrolling along the Ndori–Luanda Kotieno road near Rarieda Secondary School made the chilling discovery. The constable lay lifeless beside a TVS commuter motorcycle, which appeared to be his, bearing severe head wounds indicating a violent confrontation. Responding detectives from the Rarieda DCI office and the Sub‑County Commander swiftly sealed the scene and launched a murder investigation.

Final Moments: A Failed Escort Turns Fatal

Investigators say the officer had earlier escorted a colleague and a civilian en route to a shopping centre. Returning alone, his motorcycle reportedly ran out of fuel. He sought help, but when a fellow officer responded, all that remained was a gruesome crime scene.

Close to Base, Far from Safety

The proximity of the grisly scene to the police post—just two kilometres away—has shocked the community and prompted serious questions about officer safety even near their stations. Security experts are calling for a review of patrol routes and support protocols.

Alarming Trend: Attacks on Officers Escalate

This killing increases a troubling trend: in recent months, multiple officers have been violently attacked while on duty. Just weeks ago in Thika and Nakuru, officers were ambushed and shot by armed assailants during routine operations. These incidents have raised the alarm within the National Police Service and government circles.

What Happens Next

  • Autopsy pending: The body was moved to Lwak Mission Hospital Mortuary pending forensic examination to determine precise cause and timeline of death.
  • Intensive probe: The DCI is interviewing witnesses, combing CCTV records, and tracing the last known communications from the victim’s phone.
  • Heightened security: Stations across Siaya County are reinforcing patrols and launching safety briefings to shield officers from retaliatory or opportunistic violence.

This killing is not just a criminal incident—it is a disturbing warning that those sworn to protect may now be targets themselves. With public trust and officer morale on the line, swift justice and improved protective measures are urgently needed.
