In a stunning political twist, Linda Kiome, the Vice Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection panel, has been named Meru’s new Deputy Governor. Governor Isaac Mutuma made the unexpected pick from a pool of contenders, including elected and nominated MCAs, shaking up the county’s leadership.
Kiome, a seasoned legal expert, previously served as a legal advisor to ex-Governor Kawira Mwangaza before their dramatic fallout. She also briefly led the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) as acting president following Nelson Havi’s ouster.

Her political journey has been nothing short of eventful—she was the 2022 running mate of former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, finishing second behind Mwangaza.
As news of her nomination spreads, activist Salesio Thuranira has voiced hopes that Kiome and Governor Mutuma will collaborate effectively to drive Meru’s development.
Abogeta West MCA Dennis ‘DMK’ Kiogora joined others in congratulating Kiome as she prepares for the critical vetting process before the Meru County Assembly. Will she pass the test and cement her place in the county’s leadership? All eyes are now on the vetting committee.
