Senior accountant’s husband of Moi Referral Hospital discovered dead, with body parts hidden in a sack; accused of murder

Francis Mwangi Ndirangu, a businessman from Eldoret, has been charged with the murder of his wife, Rael Cherop Biwott, who held a senior position as an accountant at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Ndirangu appeared before Deputy Registrar Rosemary Onkoba, who ordered him to undergo a mental health evaluation and set a date for his plea hearing on July 31.

The tragic incident reportedly took place during the nights of June 22 and 23 at their residence in Shauri estate.

Cherop, a mother of four, was reported missing after she failed to arrive for her shift at the hospital. Her mutilated remains were later discovered discarded by the roadside in Nandi County, prompting a swift investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

When brought before the court, Ndirangu expressed his desire for release on bond, citing health concerns. However, David Fedha, representing the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), opposed this request, asserting that the prison system is equipped to handle his medical needs. Ndirangu is currently being represented by attorney Oscar Oduor.

“The prison department has good medical facilities to take care of him if he is unwell,” said Fedha.

The court’s decision on Ndirangu’s plea and his mental health evaluation will be closely monitored as the investigation continues, shedding light on the tragic events that led to this heartbreaking situation.
