President William Ruto has rocked the corridors of power today, replacing President Uhuru Kenyatta’s sister in a major board appointment and handing the post to former MP Ibrahim Abass, part of a sweeping reshuffle across national agencies.
The dramatic change comes via the latest gazette notices, which reveal five new leadership appointments to key parastatals. In one of the most eye-catching moves, Abass has been named the non-executive Chair of the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council, replacing the long-serving appointee linked to past administrations.
In the same round of changes, the Board of Trustees of the National Fund for the Disabled saw a new chair take over—forty-seven-year leadership by Uhuru’s sister came to an abrupt end after more than two decades.
The fresh appointments also include new leadership at the Ewaso Ng’iro North River Basin Authority, Bandari Maritime Academy, and the President’s Award Board.Abass, who represented Ijara constituency between 2013 and 2017, now leads in a public health domain critical to controlling national disease outbreaks.
