Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced plans to disclose his next political steps by the end of January, dismissing allegations of endorsing any political candidates.
Speaking during a church service at PCEA Emmanuel Matanya in Laikipia East, Gachagua called for unity within the Mount Kenya region and criticized President William Ruto’s administration. He clarified that he is currently gathering opinions from various quarters but has yet to make any decisions, saying, “I’m only listening for now; I’ll respond at the end of the month.”
Gachagua also hinted at a potential alliance with opposition leaders to present a formidable challenge in the next election. He expressed optimism about forging unity across regions, including Luhyaland, Kambaland, Maasailand, and Kisiiland.
The former Deputy President accused certain MPs and Senators from Mount Kenya of being influenced by Ruto’s government. His mention of political “friends” in Kambaland raised speculation about a possible partnership with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Earlier, Gachagua acknowledged the political potential of the Ukambani region, urging them to increase voter registration. He also hinted at a political debt owed to Kalonzo, stating, “We owe Kalonzo and his people. We are in talks and will strategize effectively.”
Despite being barred from vying for office due to his impeachment, Gachagua’s legal team is actively challenging the decision. They have filed an appeal seeking to disqualify a three-judge bench from his impeachment case, alleging bias. If successful, this could restore his eligibility for political office.
