Kenyans are grieving the loss of prominent journalist Rasna Warah, who succumbed to cancer on Saturday.
The 63-year-old was an influential journalist and writer, recognized for her advocacy in promoting good political governance, which earned her widespread admiration.
She spent time at Nation Media Group (NMG), where she authored a weekly op-ed column for the Daily Nation.
Rasna also made significant contributions to several regional and international publications, including The East African, The Elephant, Kwani, The Mail and Guardian, the UK’s Guardian, and Africa is a Country.
Her career extended to the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).
Rasna was a graduate of Malmö University in Sweden, where she obtained a Master’s degree in Communication for Development, and Suffolk University in Boston, USA, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Women’s Studies.
Before her death, Rasna, an active user on X, sent a message to President William Ruto:
“I was diagnosed with cancer soon after you were declared president.
“I have always wondered whether there is a link.
“Before I die, I want to know, how much money and land do you need, and how much suffering do you want to go through?
