OUTRAGE! Nairobi Bodaboda Riders Reject Mike Sonko as Patron, Call It a ‘Mockery’

Bodaboda riders in Nairobi have erupted in fury, outright rejecting former Governor Mike Sonko’s appointment as their national patron. Denis Ochieng, a representative of the riders, made it clear that they only recognize Governor Johnson Sakaja as their leader.

Dismissing Sonko’s selection as a “complete joke,” the riders accused him of neglecting their needs during his tenure as governor. They also disowned those who allegedly endorsed Sonko, calling them “impostors” who do not represent Nairobi’s bodaboda community.

Meanwhile, Sonko, who was named patron of the Boda Boda and Tuk Tuk Transport Cooperative Union—representing over 2.5 million operators—expressed gratitude for his new role. However, Nairobi’s bodaboda riders remain defiant, insisting they stand behind Sakaja as their rightful leader.
