Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has announced his commitment. He plans to rally the entire Luo community in support of President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027. This declaration marks a significant political shift in the Nyanza region, which has historically aligned with opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Wandayi, a political ally of Odinga, stated that the traditional backing for the opposition is set to change. The Luo community is starting to embrace Ruto’s leadership. This shift follows Ruto’s strategic inclusion of several ODM leaders into his administration. This strategy has fostered a more collaborative political environment.

“Ni jukumu letu sisi sote tulinde serikali isimame. Pia, tuunge mkono Mheshimiwa Rais Ruto aendelee kuongoza nchi hata baada ya next (2027) elections,” Wandayi expressed. He highlighted the unity among the Luo community.

This unity is particularly clear in Siaya. He stated, “Kule kwetu Siaya tukiamua, tumeamua na tumeamua tunashikana na Rais William Ruto.”

Wandayi, as a former Minority Leader in the National Assembly, highlighted a significant shift. Raila Odinga’s political support base is now aligning with Ruto. This shows a broader acceptance of the President’s agenda.

He confidently asserted, “Mimi ninaamini uhusiano wetu (wa kisiasa) utadumu kabisa beyond next (2027) elections. Sisi tumeshikana na Mheshimiwa Rais William Ruto kikamilifu. Si mambo ya kubaatisha. Sisi tuko ndani ya serikali na serikali iko imara.”

Wandayi praised Ruto’s initiative to form a broad-based government, highlighting its potential benefits for the nation. He expressed belief in the President’s noble intentions and solid development plans, which he argues deserve support from all Kenyans.

In conclusion, Wandayi’s call for unity and support for Ruto signifies a pivotal moment in Kenyan politics. This is particularly true for the Luo community. They are navigating their political affiliations ahead of the 2027 elections.
