ODM Senator Vows to Oppose Ruto’s Controversial Cow Vaccination

An outspoken Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) senator has condemned the Kenya Kwanza Alliance government regarding the plan to vaccinate 22 million cattle.

During the memorial service for former Commission on Revenue Allocation Commissioner Kishanto Ole Suuji on Wednesday, Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina informed Deputy President Kithure Kindiki that his cattle would not undergo vaccination.

“My cows will not be vaccinated. I urge you and the government to abandon the vaccination initiative. We are being treated like test subjects,” he declared.

The vocal senator alleged that Kenyan livestock are being exploited as subjects for vaccination experiments by foreign countries.

This comes after President William Ruto’s commitment to vaccinate all 22 million cattle in Kenya beginning in January 2025.

The president highlighted the importance of a vaccination-driven approach to disease management, pointing out the effects of livestock diseases on local and global meat markets.
