ODM MP Opposes Ruto on Adani Deal Cancellation

Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi has voiced his discontent. He disagrees with President William Ruto’s decision. The annulment of the agreement between the Adani Group and the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) concerns him.

The MP spoke in Parliament on Monday, November 25. He stated that the agreement would have addressed the issue of unstable electricity in the country. This includes his constituency. “In my region, we lack stable electricity; the transmission lines are non-functional.

The Adani group was prepared to resolve this problem. There was no justification for the President to cancel, especially regarding electricity transmission. ” “The damage we endure as residents of the lakeside is significant. ”

Our youth are unable to engage in activities such as welding due to a lack of power. “On that point, I disagree with the President,” he stated.

Furthermore, the Legislator mentioned the Nairobi Expressway, which initially encountered resistance from Kenyans who are now benefiting from its services.

“When President Uhuru Kenyatta constructed the Expressway, he did not conduct any tenders, leading to some complaints. However, today, Kenyans are satisfied with the Expressway, and it is widely utilized,” he added.

Ruto instructed the cancellation of the Adani-JKIA expansion deal. He also directed the termination of the Adani-Ketraco agreement during his State of the Nation Address in Parliament.

The president clarified that the new directives were based on recent information concerning the integrity of the Indian company.

I have stated this before. I reiterate it today. When undeniable evidence or credible information regarding corruption is present, I will take decisive action without hesitation.

I now direct the procuring agencies within the Ministry of Transport. They must also immediately cancel the ongoing procurement process for the JKIA Expansion Public Private Partnership transaction. This is pursuant to the principles established in Article 10 of the Constitution regarding transparency and accountability.

It is also informed by new information from our investigative agencies and partner nations. Additionally, they should cancel the recently concluded KETRACO transmission line Public Private Partnership contract,” he said.
