Nairobi on Edge! Furious Vendors Torch County Vehicle Near Afya Centre – Chaos Engulfs CBD in Fiery Showdown.

Absolute mayhem erupted in the heart of Nairobi’s Central Business District after enraged hawkers set ablaze a Nairobi City County vehicle near the busy Afya Centre. In a matter of minutes, smoke billowed into the sky and crowds surged, sending shockwaves through the capital’s streets.

Exclusive footage captured by Wamuzinews.co.ke shows the burning county vehicle flipped on its side as anti-riot police scrambled to contain the situation. Teargas canisters were fired into the crowd in a desperate attempt to restore order, as chaos unfolded just steps away from thousands of commuters.

The Friday afternoon uproar is believed to have been sparked by a confrontation between city enforcement officers — commonly known as kanjo — and street vendors, who claim they were being harassed while trying to earn an honest living.

Though authorities have yet to confirm casualties, the scale of the disorder raised fears of possible injuries. Tensions remain high, with vendors accusing county askaris of repeated brutality and extortion. “We’ve had enough!” shouted one angry hawker, ducking through clouds of tear gas. “They treat us like animals!”

This dramatic clash comes barely 24 hours after nationwide outrage spilled into the same streets following the controversial death of social media personality Albert Ojwang while in police custody.

On Thursday, June 12, hundreds of youth flooded Nairobi’s CBD demanding the resignation of Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat, accusing him of presiding over police impunity. Protesters draped in the Kenyan flag stormed strategic spots like Parliament Buildings, City Hall, and Jeevanjee Gardens, rattling state security forces.

Chants for justice echoed down Harambee Avenue as demonstrators threatened to break through the parliamentary barricade. Police responded with force — dispersing crowds using teargas and batons as the city teetered on the brink.

Protesters were seen waving placards, holding twigs, and blowing whistles — their unified message: justice for Albert Ojwang and an end to state harassment.

As Finance CS John Mbadi prepares to unveil the highly anticipated 2025/2026 national budget, rising public fury threatens to derail normalcy in the capital.

From burning county vehicles to youth-led protests demanding accountability, Nairobi is boiling — and Kenya is watching.
