Lilian Nyambura Mbugua, a brand manager with East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL) in Nairobi, has been found alive after vanishing from her mother’s home in Murang’a County.
Gitonga Murungi, the Deputy County Commissioner for Murang’a South, announced on Tuesday that the 28-year-old, who had been missing for several days, was located in Murang’a. He noted that authorities plan to interview her to uncover more details but did not share additional information about her condition.
A relative disclosed that Lilian was discovered just after midnight on Tuesday at a petrol station in Maragua Town, Murang’a. She was then taken to a nearby health center, where medical staff observed signs of emotional distress.
Her family and friends, who had been tirelessly searching since she went missing on December 23, expressed immense relief. They had circulated posters and called for assistance from the public to help find her.
Lilian had traveled to her family home on Saturday, December 21, to celebrate the festive season. However, two days later, on December 23, she disappeared. On Sunday, December 22, she joined her family for a church service and later returned home. On Monday, after sharing breakfast and lunch with her relatives, she stepped out of the house around 5 p.m.
“It seemed like an ordinary walk within the estate. She was dressed casually in slippers and a headscarf, and her mother was busy with chores in the backyard,” explained George Njuguna, her uncle.
Attempts to contact her were unsuccessful, as both of her mobile phones were found at home. Her car, house keys, laptop, and identification documents were also left behind.
When Lilian did not return, her family reported her disappearance to Gikono police post on December 24. On December 28, they escalated the matter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kenol. Preliminary investigations by the DCI revealed that Lilian had made three phone calls on the evening of Saturday, December 21, shortly before her disappearance.
