Maralal Robbery: Young Man Shot Dead in Cattle Theft”

Man Killed in Maralal Robbery

A 23-year-old man was fatally shot during a home invasion in Ngano village, Poro location, early Thursday morning, as gunmen attempted to steal cattle.

The victim, identified as Leonard Lendunda, was shot in the left chest after he exited his home due to the commotion. The assailants stole five cows before fleeing the scene.

Local National Police Reserve members, alerted by the gunfire, quickly pursued the gang. An ambush in the Opiroi area led to a shootout, compelling the bandits to abandon the cattle, which were returned to their owner.

Police have launched a murder investigation and are working to apprehend those responsible. Incidents of banditry have decreased significantly, aided by governmental measures, including the recruitment and training of reserve officers and re-arming of existing personnel.

Operation Maliza Uhalifu North Rift has recovered illegal firearms and substantially reduced cattle rustling incidents.
