Man Collapses and Dies Amid Court Proceedings in Bungoma.

In a tragic incident that has raised serious questions about safety and health protocols, an elderly man collapsed and died within the premises of Bungoma Law Courts on Tuesday morning.

According to a statement from Judiciary Spokesperson Paul Ndemo, the man, who had a matter before the Environment and Lands Court, arrived at the court compound around 9:00 AM appearing visibly unwell. He was assisted onto the premises by his relatives on a motorcycle.

A customer care officer promptly issued him a Priority Card, a special pass designated for the elderly, sick, expectant mothers, and persons with disabilities to ensure expedited service. After receiving the card, the man chose to wait outside on the grass with his brothers.

When a court official approached him later to provide updates, he was found unresponsive. Despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police officers were immediately notified and confirmed the death upon arrival. The body was subsequently transported to Bungoma County Referral Hospital Morgue.

This incident follows a similar occurrence three weeks ago at the same court premises, where a firearm accidentally discharged during a court session, injuring five individuals, including a DCI officer, a prison officer, and three civilians. Fortunately, none of the injuries were life-threatening.

The Judiciary has pledged to conduct a thorough investigation into both incidents to determine any lapses in safety protocols and to prevent future occurrences. Authorities have also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities within court premises.

As investigations continue, the Judiciary extends its condolences to the family of the deceased and reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals within its facilities.
