Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi Arrested After Viral Assault Video

The arrest of Kitutu Chache South legislator Anthony Kibagendi was carried out on Tuesday by undercover agents from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who were trying to find out more about a sensational assault case that had the public divided in opinion and discussion about the conduct and accountability of the lawmakers.

The arrest is the case that had come alive again in November 2025 after the release of short but highly disturbing and unflattering CCTV footage of the senator getting into a fistfight.

Kibagendi had been arrested, which he later confirmed through a post on social media on the afternoon of January 20, 2026, and claimed that he was DCI officers very aggressively blocked and taken to the Muthaiga Police Station, from where he was then transferred towards DCI Headquarters along Kiambu Road.

The prosecution of Kibagendi has not yet been made public, nor has he given a more detailed defense, as the investigation is still proceeding.

The authorities have suggested that the arrest concerns a complaint of assault dated November 27, 2025, which followed the broadcasting of the sordid incident. In the restaurant, the juror was said to have struck a man, who later was identified as Enock Omariba and who had been caught in the video that disseminated rapidly over the internet, fronted and beaten by a presumed MP who made a commotion and caused the diners and the staff to rush to bring peace amongst the crazily escalating conflict.

According to DCI insiders, Kibagendi will be taken to Kisii for a plea where he will have the charges read to him. Although there is no statement issued to the public by the prosecutors yet, the recent event indicates a stronger focus on the behavior of lawmakers and on the active pursuit of assault accusations, no matter how prominent the accused might be.

A physical assault accusation has been made against a man identified as Kibagendi, who is reported to have a very personal dispute with the victim, which led to him being injured and opening a police case that remained inactive until the CCTV footage prompted the police to act again.

The arrest of Kibagendi is a part of a larger trend of public interest in the controversies surrounding the MP, such as the previous confrontations with other MPs and the clashes during official and community events.

At the time of this report, the DCI has not issued any comprehensive communication regarding the subsequent procedural steps. Court hearings are expected to go through quickly, and in the meantime, the general public will be watching closely how the judicial system treats the case of a sitting MP charged with violence.
