‘I’m Alive and Safe’—Controversial Blogger Ndiang’ui Speaks Out From Hiding.

Blogger and activist Ndiang’ui Kinyagia has broken weeks of silence, confirming he’s alive and in hiding after authorities issued a search following undisclosed criminal allegations.

The revelation comes as the judiciary and media intensify scrutiny on police conduct and freedom of expression. In a dramatic late-night outreach, Ndiang’ui contacted a family member on Tuesday, assuring loved ones he was safe but in hiding due to threats to his life from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) .

His family lawyer, Wahome Thuku, released a statement Wednesday confirming his status and outlining a pending High Court appearance at Milimani Law Courts today, July 3, at 11 am .

Thuku revealed that DCI officers conducted a forceful raid on Ndiang’ui’s home in his absence, confiscating items now sealed in the Kinoo Police Station evidence room—a move prompting his family to file an official complaint .

Despite threats, the blogger has signaled willingness to face the law—on one condition: his safety must be guaranteed. “He is ready and willing to present himself to the DCI and to be presented before any court of law when his safety and security is guaranteed,” Thuku emphasized .

The Law Society of Kenya is also mobilizing representation, underlining the legal stakes. With freedom of expression under the spotlight, Ndiang’ui’s ordeal has sparked public debate over state pressure on media voices and the discretion of police in handling dissent.

Why this matters now:Freedom of speech under threat: Civil society views the case as a dangerous precedent for bloggers and activists.Possible legal showdown ahead: Ndiang’ui’s court appearance may trigger key rulings on arrest protocols and individual rights.

Erosion of public trust: The raid’s optics and secrecy surrounding charges threaten to feed suspicions of coercion and suppression.Today’s court hearing will be pivotal—not just for Ndiang’ui, but for Kenya’s legal and political trajectory.

Will the state proceed cautiously, or will its handling of this case deepen fears of a shrinking civic space?

Stay tuned as we monitor courtroom proceedings, allegations, and potential legal reforms emerging from this explosive confrontation between a lone activist and the apparatus of state authority.
