The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that four by-elections will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, to fill vacant parliamentary and county assembly seats in different parts of the country. The announcement was made by IEBC chairperson Erastus Ethekon, who confirmed that the commission has finalized the electoral roadmap ahead of the polls.
The by-elections will include a parliamentary contest in Isiolo South Constituency, which fell vacant following the death of the sitting Member of Parliament. In Embu County, voters in Muminji and Evurore wards of Mbeere North Constituency will also elect new Members of the County Assembly after the previous office holders resigned. Additionally, a by-election will be conducted in West Kabras ward in Malava Constituency, Kakamega County, to fill another vacant MCA seat.
IEBC has outlined key timelines for the exercise, including nomination and campaign periods. Political parties and independent candidates are expected to comply with nomination requirements ahead of the polls, while campaigns will run for slightly over a month before election day. The commission has assured Kenyans that all logistical and administrative preparations will be completed in time to ensure free, fair and credible by-elections.
