High Court Summons Acting Police IG Over Disappearances.

Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli has been summoned by the High Court. He needs to explain the disappearance of three individuals in Kitengela.

The Law Society of Kenya filed a case about the abduction of Bob Micheni. Jamil Longton and Aslam Longton were also abducted. They were last seen on August 19. Masengeli has been ordered before the court to offer information on their whereabouts.

The trio were known for mobilizing youth during anti-Finance Bill protests. They were allegedly abducted in broad daylight by masked individuals in private cars.

Amnesty International and LSK have raised concerns over their disappearance, prompting legal action. Masengeli is asked to personally explain why the three individuals have not been produced in court as mandated by law.

President William Ruto, though, claimed ignorance of any Kenyan being kidnapped during recent protests. Despite this, pressure mounts on authorities to resolve the missing persons’ issue.

Masengeli’s court appearance follows a habeas corpus application filed by LSK. The application emphasizes the urgency of clarifying the situation surrounding the abducted individuals.

The case highlights the ongoing tensions between authorities and human rights organizations over the handling of disappearances and abductions.

Masengeli’s summons emphasizes the need for accountability. It also calls for transparency in addressing such incidents. The public demands answers about the safety and whereabouts of the missing individuals.
