Gachagua Exposes Alleged Corruption in Ruto’s SHA Scheme

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has criticized the new health initiative, the Social Health Authority (SHA), which oversees the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF)

During an interview yesterday, Gachagua asserted that SHA is a significant scam devised by President William Ruto to defraud Kenyans.

Gachagua clarified that he preferred not to associate with projects tainted with controversies and allegations of graft like SHA, suggesting this contributed to his split with Ruto.

“I supported everything that was legitimate. I defended the registration of farmers for the fertilizer program, I worked on it, I defended coffee reforms, I defended tea reforms… anything that was legitimate. ”

“However, regarding corruption and the theft of public funds, I could not go and defend,” Gachagua stated.

In defending his decision, the former DP asserted that Ruto rushed to implement SHA because he was focused on the Sh104 billion allocated to operate the system instead of enhancing the NHIF system, which would have cost under a billion.

“If something is beneficial, people should be eager to register,” he criticized SHA, adding that the Ksh104 billion allocated for the program was outright theft.
