Chaos has erupted between the powerful Freemason Society and Nairobi County after county officials stormed the mysterious Freemasons’ Hall on Nyerere Road, accusing the group of dodging a staggering Sh19 million in land rates!
Led by Health CEC Susan Silantoi, the county team descended on the iconic building as part of a high-stakes crackdown to recover over Sh10 billion from defaulters.
The surprise visit sent shockwaves across the city, with officials warning that defaulters would be named and shamed—including the legendary secretive society.
In a fiery response, William Ramsay McGhee, the Grand Master Mason from the Grand Lodge of Scotland, dismissed the claims as completely false, insisting the property is held under a legal trust that shields it from such taxes.

“This is baseless and legally incorrect,” McGhee declared, adding fuel to the growing controversy.Nairobi County didn’t back down. Officials threatened to mark the plot—number 209—as seized property until full payment is made.
“We’re done playing games. Nairobi is owed billions, and this crackdown will shake even the untouchables,” warned a county enforcement officer.
Tensions are rising as both sides engage in behind-the-scenes talks, promising a joint statement soon. But with the county determined to make an example and the Freemasons refusing to yield, this developing story is far from over.
