A young woman studying at a Thika-based training institute tragically lost her life on Saturday night after reportedly jumping from the third floor of her apartment.
According to initial reports, the student allegedly took the fatal leap following a heated argument with her boyfriend. The two were living together in a rented unit near Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), close to Gate C in Juja town.
Eyewitnesses revealed that neighbors, alarmed by the commotion, rushed outside only to find the young woman critically injured on the ground. Some residents claimed she became distressed after discovering a suspicious message on her boyfriend’s phone, allegedly from another woman.

Emergency responders arrived shortly after but confirmed that the student had already succumbed to her injuries, leaving behind unanswered questions.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Juja launched an inquiry into the incident, seeking to establish the circumstances leading to the tragic event.
Earlier speculation on social media suggested that the deceased was a JKUAT student. However, a university security official dismissed the claims, stating that no records linked her to the institution.
“This case did not involve any of our students, but I can confirm that a similar incident took place outside the university. The matter is currently under police investigation,” the official told Wamuzinews.co.ke.
The Juja area has witnessed multiple cases of suicide in recent years. In a similar tragedy on March 30 last year, a first-year Computer Science student died by suicide after jumping from the fourth floor of his hostel. His friends later disclosed that he had been struggling with the rejection of his U.S. scholarship visa application.
Another incident in January 2022 involved a 20-year-old Kirinyaga University student who fell to his death from the third floor of an apartment in Juja, adding to growing concerns over mental health issues among students in the area.
