Organizers confirmed that they took Eric Omondi to the hospital after he suffered severe leg and hip injuries during his charity walk, which started in Nairobi and was meant to end in Mombasa. The incident that occurred during the charity walk has created a major disruption in both Kenya’s philanthropic sector and its entertainment industry because people now question whether he can finish the demanding task, which raises money for a significant social initiative.
Omondi launched the “Walk of Love” on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from Nyayo National Stadium to begin a 486-kilometer journey that will end at Mama Ngina Waterfront on Valentine’s Day. The walk will generate funds to support the Sisi Kwa Sisi Help and Rescue Centre, which will be built as a facility containing a warehouse and clinic and two ambulances and a free secondary school that will support vulnerable communities.
After traveling more than 68 kilometers on his first day of walking, Omondi developed severe leg pain, and doctors confirmed that he suffered ligament damage in his left leg and hip, which required emergency medical treatment. He was taken to a hospital in Machakos County, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The activist faced a major obstacle that he chose to fight against because he had previously told his followers that he would keep walking until he reached Mombasa. Omondi planned to maintain his battle against difficulties while he requested Kenyans to support his mission through donations, which would enable him to purchase specific distances. He asked for KSh 15,000 to purchase each kilometer, which he needed to use for project development.
The news of his hospitalization has ignited a wave of concern among supporters and fellow activists, many of whom had gathered along the route to cheer him on during the early stages of the walk. The flag-off event attracted TV personalities and musicians as its main guest stars, which demonstrated that the public had strong interest in the event.
Well-wishers and donors are now awaiting updates on Omondi’s condition and the future of the Sisi Kwa Sisi walk, which has already drawn significant attention nationwide. The organizers will announce a new schedule together with their backup plan after medical professionals complete their assessment of the injuries.
