Panic and confusion gripped Nairobi on Wednesday morning as an unexpected tremor violently shook the city, leaving residents stunned and scrambling for answers!
From Westlands to Parklands, Kangemi to Mlolongo, and across several suburbs, Kenyans reported feeling sudden, unexplained ground shaking between 10:30 AM and 10:40 AM. The unsettling vibrations sparked immediate fear, as buildings trembled and walls momentarily quivered.
What made the incident even more alarming? The Earthquake Monitor, a global geological tracking platform, confirmed it had received initial ground movement signals from Mlolongo—before similar alerts rapidly spread to surrounding areas.
“We’re currently picking up seismic activity near Nairobi, Kenya, as of May 7, 2025, at around 07:36 GMT,” the platform reported. But here’s the twist—no official confirmation has been made regarding the magnitude or depth of the quake, leaving the public on edge and desperate for clarity.

Residents described the sensation as light yet eerie vibrations, enough to make windows rattle and buildings sway ever so slightly—just enough to spark widespread concern.
This comes barely a week after an intense tremor shook Kenya’s coast! On April 28, at approximately 4:17 PM, areas such as Mombasa and Kilifi were rocked by powerful ground movements, with terrified locals even noticing unusual changes in the ocean.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), that coastal quake reached a depth of 10 kilometers and was picked up by 13 seismic stations—making it the strongest tremor ever felt along Kenya’s coastline.
With two seismic events in just one week—one at the coast and another rattling Nairobi’s core—questions are now swirling: Is Kenya facing a new wave of geological instability?
Authorities and geological experts are urged to issue a full briefing ASAP as residents demand answers—and brace for what could come next.
