Dorcas Rigathi Breaks Silence, Accuses President Ruto of Betrayal Over Church Deal.

Dorcas Rigathi, wife of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has publicly accused President William Ruto of reneging on a solemn promise made to Kenya’s clergy—sending shockwaves through the political and religious landscape.

Dorcas, speaking passionately during a church service at Christ’s Joy Christian Church in Gatanga, Murang’a County, claimed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between President Ruto and over 1,000 pastors and bishops has been completely ignored.

“This was no casual meeting, no offhand remark,” Dorcas declared, her voice resolute. “I personally led a massive delegation of clergy to his residence. We had clarity, purpose, and prayer. He agreed to our terms. We signed a formal agreement—not whispers in the wind. And now, not even a fraction has been honored. Nothing.”

The comments, made in front of her husband and a packed congregation, were nothing short of explosive.

Yet, even in disappointment, Dorcas turned to faith.

“Man may break promises,” she said solemnly, “but God does not. He is watching. He will reveal Himself in this very hour of our nation’s reckoning.”

A Deal Forgotten

The MoU, according to Dorcas, aimed at restoring Kenya’s moral compass through the church—especially within the education sector. She said it wasn’t about politics or personal favors, but about reclaiming a spiritual and ethical foundation in institutions that the church originally helped build.

She pointed to historic church-founded schools like Alliance High and Precious Blood, expressing deep frustration that the land these institutions sit on is now under the Ministry of Education.

“We prayed for action—not platitudes. That land was meant to return to the church. These schools were never just about academics; they were built to shape integrity and character. Now, with control stripped away, we’re watching that vision disappear,” she lamented.

A Personal Plea from Murang’a

Dorcas didn’t stop there. Drawing from her own upbringing in Murang’a, she painted a powerful picture of the region’s lost economic glory, particularly the downfall of the once-thriving coffee sector.

“I was born here, raised on these mountains,” she reflected. “We farmed coffee with pride. A thousand trees once meant status, security. Now, that same number means nothing.”

With visible emotion, she described her journey from the coffee fields of Gitiri to a career in Cooperative Bank, helping farmers access financial services. Coffee, she said, was not just an economic crop—it was the reason many families, including hers, could afford school and opportunity.

“Coffee paid our fees. It gave us dignity. That’s why I fought for reforms in that sector—not for nostalgia, but for justice.”

A Silent Message to Ruto?

While she didn’t name President Ruto directly in every statement, the underlying message was unmistakable. Dorcas Rigathi’s outcry has opened a new chapter in the strained relationship between the former deputy president’s camp and the current administration.

And in a nation where promises made to the church hold deep cultural weight, this revelation could shake the foundations of public trust.

Kenya now waits to see—will the government respond? Or has a sacred promise to the nation’s spiritual leaders truly been broken?
