Deadly Trailer Crash on Mai Mahiu–Narok Highway Sparks Night of Horror.

A devastating crash late Saturday night on the treacherous Mai Mahiu–Narok highway has left multiple people feared dead and dozens injured. The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m., as an Ena Coach bus bound for Migori was struck from behind by a trailer believed to have suffered catastrophic brake failure on the steep descent.

The force of the impact triggered a chain-reaction collision that ensnared several passenger vehicles. Eyewitnesses describe a scene of chaos—shattered glass, twisted metal, and desperate cries filling the air as survivors and passersby scrambled to render aid. Injured passengers were rushed to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital, where medical teams are struggling to keep up with the flow of casualties. (based on preliminary reports)

Authorities have yet to confirm the exact death toll, but police officials at the scene expressed deep concern, stating that “several lives are feared lost.” The highway remains partially blocked, with traffic diverted and recovery operations underway amid darkness and mounting tension.

A Deadly Pattern

This tragedy unfolds amid one of Kenya’s deadliest road safety periods. Just hours earlier, a funeral convoy overturn in Kisumu claimed at least 26 lives, while a commuter bus collided with a train near Naivasha, killing nine more. The growing body count has heightened calls for urgent reform.
