The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has leveled a bombshell accusation against the “Linda Mwananchi” movement, claiming that the political group has bypassed democratic engagement to begin arming supporters with lethal weapons.
The situation escalated after a young supporter died during the weekend’s violent disturbances in Kakamega, which the government now uses to present the opposition as a developing paramilitary danger.
The DCI expands its investigation beyond incitement charges because it wants to uncover more serious accusations against the suspect. Investigators now allege that politicians—specifically those seen leading the “Linda Mwananchi” charge—were observed distributing crude weapons and handheld projectiles to youth groups prior to the Amalemba Grounds rally.
The DCI moves to blame the opposition for the weekend death because it claims the victim died from an “organized criminal enterprise” crossfire instead of police force.
The DCI’s statement signals a radical escalation in the state’s strategy. The government accuses the opposition of operating an armed group through its security forces and organized youth. The state now criminalizes opposition to the Linda Mwananchi movement, which it considers a national security danger instead of a political competitor.
Opposition leaders have vehemently denied these claims, labeling them a clumsy fabrication designed to mask the reality of police brutality. The DCI claims to possess forensic evidence together with witness testimonies that demonstrate that specific lawmakers participated in weapon supply activities meant to create a violent conflict.
The upcoming protests, which will occur across the country, have caused a change in public interest from monitoring living expenses to examining the legal status of the demonstration. The DCI has established a boundary that designates political platforms as operational bases for military operations.
