the High Court has officially merged seven high-stakes petitions challenging the removal of Chief Justice Martha Koome and several Supreme Court judges in a move that has electrified the nation’s justice system.
This dramatic legal collision was confirmed during a tense court session on Friday, where Justices Charles Kariuki, Lawrence Mugambi, and Bahati Mwamuye took center stage. In a bombshell ruling, the judges announced the consolidation of all seven petitions into one mega-case an unprecedented maneuver meant to fast-track a case that’s sending shockwaves across the country.
The bench threw down the gauntlet: all parties have until May 21, 2025, to file hard copies of their documents, with responses due just a week later on May 28. And in a stunning show of caution, the court extended protective orders effectively handcuffing the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) from moving a single step forward in the ousting saga until the final verdict is rendered.

“This matter has been hanging in the air long enough,” the bench declared with intensity. “We are moving ahead with the main petition to safeguard the court’s time and authority.”
The heat around this case intensified after a prior ruling confirmed the matter was of such serious constitutional magnitude that it could only be handled by a three-judge bench. In a bold legal counteroffensive, CJ Koome and her fellow judges Justices Njoki Ndung’u, Isaac Lenaola, William Ouko, and Smokin Wanjala have challenged the JSC’s approach, labeling it as improper and flawed.
The petitions, spearheaded by former LSK president Nelson Havi and 15 others, accuse the top judicial minds of conduct unworthy of their stations. Now, all eyes are on July 4, 2025, when the court will set the wheels in motion for full hearings that could redefine the future of Kenya’s highest court.
One thing is clear: the courtroom is now the battlefield, and Kenya’s legal elite are fighting for survival.
