A shocking act of betrayal has rocked the quiet community of Sangla Kagak in Awendo Sub-County, after a respected church elder bulldozed a local sanctuary during a live prayer session, leaving worshippers in tears and disbelief.
The congregation of God’s Last Appeal Church was deep in solemn prayer on Thursday, May 22 — some seeking healing, others spiritual strength — when the unthinkable happened. Their once-trusted elder, Mzee George Ouma, stormed into the church grounds and ordered everyone out. Moments later, under his supervision, the place they called holy ground was reduced to rubble.
“I gave them land — what have I received in return?” Ouma exclaimed to reporters, his voice filled with anger and pain. “They eat while I go hungry.”
A man long regarded as a pillar of faith in the community, Ouma said years of promises were made by church leaders — promises to support his family, educate his children, and help mediate his personal struggles. But as the years passed, none of it came to fruition.

Carrying the heavy load of two families and rising frustration, the elder said he could no longer bear the silence. His generosity, once a symbol of devotion, had turned into bitterness.
Church leaders were blindsided by the incident.
“He gave the land out of testimony and goodwill,” said a stunned Bishop Ken Ngaji. “But we never had a written agreement. What happened today is tragic. It’s a harsh reminder that even generosity must be documented.”
The bishop confirmed that the church is now searching for a new place of worship, but the emotional scars may take far longer to heal.
Worshippers stood frozen in disbelief as their spiritual home was destroyed before their eyes. Some cried, others prayed.
“This is something we never saw coming,” whispered one heartbroken member. “We never imagined the elder had such pain hidden behind his silence.”
This incident has not only destroyed a building — it has shattered trust, faith, and a legacy decades in the making.
