After Moses Wetangula, Speaker of the National Assembly, read a list of ten candidates, this is probably going to happen. However, Ruto released a list of 11 on Friday. Former Trade CS Rebecca Miano was on the list, but this time she was the Attorney General’s choice.
On Tuesday, nonetheless, her name was missing from Wetangula’s report. The president reassigned Soipan Tuya and Aden Duale to the Defense and Environment dockets, respectively, in the communiqué.
Miano served as Cabinet Secretary for the East African Community, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs), and Regional Development prior to joining the Trade Ministry.
She was in charge of promoting development through Regional Development Authorities, championing Kenya’s agenda within the East African Community, and implementing measures to improve resilience in arid and semi-arid regions in this position.
Miano became the first woman to hold the positions of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) for five years prior to her appointment to the cabinet. As a result, she made history.
Miano is regarded as a prominent continental business figure with over three decades of energy industry experience and a distinguished public service career. She is commended for her initiative at KenGen as well as for her commitments to orientation equality.
She started the Pink Energy forum to talk about gender issues in the energy industry. She has also been given important jobs, like being a Council Member of the World Bank Group’s Advisory Council on Gender and Development, which she still has.
Miano has gotten various honors, including being perceived among the Main 100 Ladies Chiefs in Africa, named Executive of the Year by Ladies on Sheets in 2021, and getting the Organization Secretary of the Year grant in the Heroes of Administration Grants series in 2010.
She is an enlisted Guaranteed Public Secretary of Kenya and achieved partnership status (FCS) from the Organization of Confirmed Public Secretaries of Kenya (ICPSK) in October 2023. Miano has a Diploma in Law, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), and postgraduate training in Comparative Law.
She graduated from Strathmore University’s Advanced Management Program in 2010 and is a member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
