A simple occasion meant for celebration suddenly became a national disaster on Sunday evening when a father from Kisii dropped dead after suffering a heart attack just at the moment he had returned home to display joy over his son’s good performance in the KCSE results, which had just been announced. This incident left the community stunned, and there were immediately calls for a probe.
The man who passed away, Joel, had left work and gone straight to his Nyangusu residence in Bobasi to mingle with the family celebrating the victory of his son in the academic world. As per the family, Joel not only treated himself but also bought gifts and shopped for the family before he left shortly to meet friends in the village.
A mere 30 minutes after leaving his home, Joel was found lying unconscious in front of a local pub, presumably going there to drink and celebrate. The family was notified and traveled quickly to the site, but he was already dead when they got there.
His heartbroken father, Isaiah Sanduku, made a demanding voice to the authorities, asking them to take immediate actions and practice openness. Sanduku disclosed that his son had been employed for the last 25 years, was a widower with three kids, and was very much respected in the neighborhood.
He asked Kisii Governor Simba Arati and police to open an exhaustive inquiry into the mystery of his son’s abrupt death, especially at the bar where he fainted—a place the family says has been a hotspot for similar unexplained incidents in the past.
“We are looking for explanations,” Sanduku stated. “Only the death cause will allow our family to take a step forward. This is definitely not something that should happen again.”
Joel’s sibling, Askar Onguti, reiterated the demand for accountability, highlighting the family’s loss’s deep effect on his kids and broader family. Relatives and friends cannot believe that a moment of pride and joy turned into heartbreak so soon.
The local authorities have not yet disclosed any preliminary findings, but the family’s demand for a full investigation is being heard all over Kisii County as the residents are waiting for an explanation for what has turned into a tragic and alarming incident associated with a community celebration.
