The murder of a legal officer just hours after his graduation celebration has plunged the otherwise peaceful village of Usula in Bondo sub-county into sadness.
The victim, who was a 28-year-old man named Evans Odhiambo, was violently assaulted and murdered at the dead of night, thus turning a weekend of victory into an unimaginable horror scene.
Odhiambo was said to have arrived at his rural home on Friday night to celebrate his graduation from a top university in Nairobi. It was reported that the night was filled with joy and laughter, with the family members toasting to his bright future in the legal field.
But suddenly, the partying was interrupted when the unknown attackers came in the dark, targeting the young professional in what seemed to be a very well-planned murder.
The most unexpected development in this case is the accuracy of the attack. Community sources say that nothing very valuable was taken from the house, which leads to the conclusion that robbery was not the motive.
Rather, the police now suspect the involvement of a professional or a land-related rivalry. Odhiambo had recently taken up a sensitive legal consulting position in the city, which is why investigators have come to the conclusion that he was eliminated by people who were aware of the exact time he would be unprotected at his rural retreat.
Sub-county police chief Roseline Mnyolmo reported that the corpse was found in a pool of blood with multiple deep machete cuts on the neck and head. The legal fraternity is in shock and is calling for quick justice for one of their rising stars because of the severe brutality of the murder.
As the hunt for the killers intensifies, the Bondo community remains on edge, fearing that a targeted “hit squad” may be operating within the region. Security agencies are currently combing through the victim’s phone records to establish his final communications.
For now, a family that should be framing a graduation certificate is instead preparing for a funeral, haunted by the question of who wanted the young lawyer dead before his career could even begin.
