An assistant chief in Kericho County has been arrested on allegations of sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl.
The accused, 42-year-old Douglas Koech Kipkemoi, who holds the position of Assistant Chief for Kabianga Sub-location, is alleged to have committed the heinous act near his own home on July 10th, 2024.
According to a police report, the minor complained of pain in her genital area while urinating on July 11th. This prompted her mother to inquire further, leading the child to disclose that she had been sexually assaulted by the Assistant Chief the previous day.
“The child then disclosed that she was defiled by one Douglas Koech Kipkemoi aged 42 years (Ass. Chief Kabianga Sub-location) the previous day, 10th July 2024 at about 1900 hrs near the suspect’s home,” the report reads.
The news of the alleged assault quickly spread, leading to public outrage and fear of potential vigilante action against the local administrator. Fearing for his safety, Kipkemoi ultimately surrendered himself to the police.
“Both the victim and suspect were escorted to Londiani Sub-County Hospital for medical examination and necessary action taken,” the report adds.
As the case moves forward, there are calls for a thorough investigation and appropriate legal proceedings to hold the accused accountable for the alleged abuse of power and betrayal of public trust.
“This is a horrific and unacceptable act that cannot be tolerated,” said a local activist. “We must ensure that justice is served and that the victim receives the support and care she needs.”
The suspect is set to be arraigned at the Molo Law Courts in the coming days, where the judicial process will unfold.
