In a tragic and dramatic event in Nakuru County, residents took to the streets on Sunday, carrying the body of slain activist Richard Otieno in a bold demand for justice.
Otieno, widely known as “Molo President,” was reportedly killed on Saturday night in Molo after a brutal attack involving an axe by unidentified individuals. Outraged by his murder, locals stormed the mortuary where his body was being held, retrieving it and marching through the streets in protest.
Video footage captured the emotional procession along the Njoro-Molo Road, where residents from Elburgon chanted for accountability and justice for Otieno. The activist, a vocal government critic and aspiring ward representative for Molo Constituency, had earned a reputation for championing youth causes.
As investigations continue, authorities have yet to identify the culprits behind Otieno’s killing, which adds to the growing list of suspicious deaths and disappearances plaguing the country in recent months. It remains unclear whether he had been reported missing before his tragic death.
This incident echoes a similar case just two weeks ago involving 24-year-old activist Ibrahim Hilal Mwiti, whose body was discovered in Thika Level Five Hospital after he had been missing for seven weeks. Mwiti, a delivery worker and social media enthusiast, was one of many young Kenyans recently targeted in a climate of increasing threats against online critics.
With four more individuals still missing since December, public outrage continues to mount, as concerns grow over the safety of youth leaders and activists under the ongoing government crackdown.
