Three KUPPET officials have been arrested in connection with the ongoing strike.

Three officials from the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education (Kuppet) in Kakamega were arrested. They caused a disturbance at a school.

They attempted to force teachers out. They were apprehended by DCI officers and initially held at Shianda police station before being transferred to Kakamega central cells. The officials were accused of threatening teachers who were willing to teach, leading to their arrest.

The arrests were confirmed by Kakamega County Deputy DCI boss Nicholas Waringa, who stated that the matter was under investigation.

The lawyer representing the officials demanded their unconditional release or to be produced before the court. He criticized the government’s alleged scheme to intimidate teachers exercising their right to protest. The Cotu boss urged Kuppet to sign the return-to-work formula to end the strike.

In response to the arrests, the lawyer for the officials criticized the government’s actions as an effort to intimidate teachers. The Cotu boss emphasized the importance of signing the return-to-work formula to resolve the strike.

The lawyer demanded the release of the officials. Alternatively, he called for their presentation before the court. He highlighted the need to protect teachers’ rights.
