The political situation in Kenya has reached a high point of unrest after Sotik MP Nicholas Kipkorir Wamuchomba requested United Nations Secretary-General Julius Ogamba and principal secretaries Bitok, Inyangala, and Muoria to be removed from their positions.
Wamuchomba made his ultimatum during the Parliament session on January 29, 2026, which will create a political disaster for President William Ruto’s government, and it will lead to an urgent demand for government officials to answer for their actions at work.
Since late 2025, the uniform scandal, which has become the main news story, centers on the disputed distribution process for subsidized school uniforms, which are provided through the Basic Education Fund.
The critics believe that the procurement process shows major irregularities because it includes delivery delays and contract awards that lack transparency and actual delivery of services to schools. Wamuchomba, who serves on the National Assembly’s Education Committee, told his fellow members that the system needs to remove staff members who failed their duties after multiple failures had occurred.
Wamuchomba specifically charged CS Ogamba with failing to carry out his leadership duties because he allowed the Ministry of Education to execute its school resource distribution program, which resulted in one of the most ineffective operations of recent years.
He also accused Principal Secretaries Bitok, Inyangala, and Muoria of failing to meet their professional responsibilities because their actions created “a scandal that undermines the dignity and welfare of Kenya’s students.”
The political parties have responded immediately to Wamuchomba’s motion. The opposition lawmakers have used this opportunity to demand a parliamentary inquiry, which should impose sanctions on officials who have been identified as implicated, while they present the controversy as evidence that shows governmental failures. The government allies have advised people to avoid making quick decisions while they request forensic audits to take place before any employee terminations.
The Education Ministry has maintained throughout the process that their uniform procurement procedure followed all legal requirements while they recognized that they faced distribution issues. Wamuchomba’s demand to remove both political and administrative leaders represents a major increase in his request because it will change cabinet relationships and executive responsibility practices within the Ruto government as Kenya approaches its 2027 General Election.
