Deadline Panic as KNEC Activates New Online System for All Grade 10 Learners

In a major overhaul of the data infrastructure within the senior schools of Kenya, a new online data management portal for the Grade 10 students has been announced by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) today and is set to become operational on January 26, 2026.

The move has made the digital management of learner information a very important part of education, and by it, the entire country will have a very different control and verification system for student records.

KNEC CEO David Njengere stated that the portal, which has been created in tandem with the Ministry of Education, will compel the heads of those schools to log in and confirm detailed data about the Grade 10 pupils, including their preferred learning pathways, after they have been placed.

Such a step indicates that Kenya is broadening its CBE, and since the government is making it more difficult, having all the data centralized is a big plus for the 2026 SBAs.

“The system will ensure that there are no discrepancies in the learner information, and everything will be accurate and up-to-date right before the commencement of assessments,” said Njengere, emphasizing the government’s drive towards transparency in student records and educational results.

Setting the official launch date of the portal to be after the classes have resumed places additional pressure on the school authorities to verify the data quickly so that there is no confusion or delay in the assessment schedule.

The educational specialists recognize the platform’s ability to facilitate data management and also to lessen inaccuracies; however, the people in the know cautioned that the short timelines might give rise to a disturbance in the logistics chain, especially in the case of small schools that have a limited number of teachers and staff.

The association of the new portal with the incoming SBAs—which consist of projects, practical work, and written tests—has made data entry a legal as well as an administrative priority for accurate data input.

Among the new projects, the portal has strengthened digital access movements in the education sector, mainly through the online systems for registering national examinations and the dissemination of results that have been expanded. The authorities have constantly mentioned the necessity for digital solutions to support the integrity and transparency of the assessment processes.

The schools are being prepared for the portal’s launching next week, and at the same time, stakeholders like parents, teachers, and students are being advised to get acquainted with the functionalities of the platform.

If the verification that is supposed to be done on time is not completed, it could lead to disqualification of the students for assessments and subsequently the delay in the granting of certificates due to the new Kenya Certificate of Basic Education (KCBE) framework, which is supposed to conclude at the end of the senior school cycle.
