Kenya Airways Donates Boeing 737 to Mang’u High School to Inspire Aviation Students

Kenya Airways (KQ) has officially transferred a decommissioned Boeing 737-700 aircraft to Mang’u High School following its donation to the institution in 2023.

In a statement released on Sunday, January 12, the airline announced that the aircraft is intended to inspire students pursuing aviation studies at the school.

“We are making history with the donation of a Boeing 737 to Mang’u High School, inspiring the next generation of aviators! ” stated Kenya Airways.

During a ceremony at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Mang’u Principal John Kuria expressed appreciation to the national carrier.

Kuria noted that the delivery of the aircraft represents a pinnacle achievement in his teaching career, allowing him to retire with pride.

“We are extremely happy to receive the gift from Kenya Airways, the Boeing 737-700. This journey began in 2021, and today I am fulfilled as the CEO of the school for this donation.

“As I retire from teaching, this signifies a high point in my career. I will leave with pride, having guided the school toward excellent performance and now receiving this aircraft, which will advance aviation studies at Mang’u High School. I thank Kenya Airways for providing this aircraft, which will enhance aviation education and prepare our youth for careers in the Kenyan and global aviation industry,” Kuria stated.

Mang’u High School Board Chairperson Anthony Maina was present at the event on Sunday, January 12, 2025.

Kenya Airways Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer Hellen Mathuka emphasized that the aircraft will serve as a valuable learning tool to inspire future aviators.

“This aircraft, once soaring through the skies, now begins a new chapter as a learning resource to inspire and equip future aviators, engineers, and innovators,” Mathuka commented.

The decommissioned aircraft will be transported to the school via the Eastern Bypass and Thika Road, with motorists advised of an unusually long load during its transit.
