Government Shake-Up: Head of Delivery Services Resigns Amid Alleged Power Struggles and Unresolved Conflicts!

Dr. Peter Mbae, who served as the Head of Government Delivery Services, has stepped down, citing unresolved conflicts with Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei.

In a resignation letter dated January 9, Mbae highlighted unfavorable working conditions that hindered his ability to execute his responsibilities effectively, just under a year into his tenure.

“Despite my passion, dedication, and consistency, persistent issues I have raised remain unaddressed, making it impossible for me to carry out my duties as intended. Consequently, my position as Head of Government Delivery Services is no longer sustainable,” he wrote.

He further requested to be released from his role, stating, “To remain accountable to the people of Kenya, given the public nature of my appointment, I formally seek to disengage from this role and focus on other pursuits.”

In a media statement, Mbae confirmed his resignation and plans to return to his prior professional endeavors. “Before joining the government, I had an established career, and I will now return to those interests,” he said.

Dr. Mbae, an expert in conflict resolution, emphasized his commitment and work ethic throughout his government career. Before his appointment to the Government Delivery Services, he held several key positions, including Head of Ministerial Programmes in the Ministry of Public Service, Performance, and Delivery Management, Secretary for Investments Promotion in the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry, and Head of the Ministerial Delivery Unit.

“In all my roles, I remained deeply committed to driving sustainable transformation aligned with the Kenya Kwanza Government manifesto,” Mbae stated.

The Government Delivery Services (GDS) operates under the State Department for Performance and Delivery Management, focusing on enhancing coordination and monitoring of national government flagship projects. The agency tracks progress on key priorities, resolves challenges, verifies project implementation, and promotes public awareness of the government’s achievements.

Dr. Mbae’s resignation comes amidst growing rumors of discontent within the government. Notably, Public Service CS Justin Muturi recently made pointed remarks about government inefficiencies following a spate of abductions, including a personal incident where his son was kidnapped and later freed.
