DCI Says New Leads Emerge in Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu Murder — IG Kanja Speaks Out.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced significant new leads into the murder of prominent lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, raising hopes that justice may finally be within reach in the case that has gripped the nation.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed the breakthroughs in a tense update late Tuesday. The slain advocate, known for taking on contentious cases, was gunned down on September 8 along Magadi Road. Since then, Kenyan police have been under pressure to swiftly uncover those behind the assassination.

What the Authorities Say.

IG Kanja revealed that detectives are now “on a hot, resourceful trail” and have several culprits linked to Mbobu’s killing under close watch. While no arrests have stuck so far, he assured the public that the probe is advancing.

DCI Director Mohamed Amin affirmed that a specialized homicide team has been assembled for this case. Amin said three persons of interest were initially arrested but later released; nonetheless, investigators believe these individuals remain key to the unfolding puzzle.

According to sources, investigators are now narrowing their net to seven individuals. These include people close to Mbobu: friends, staff, family members, and someone who had been involved in a legal dispute with the lawyer.

Obstacles Still Looming.

Despite the new momentum, major challenges remain:None of the suspects are currently held. The three arrested earlier were released, indicating the evidence may not yet be conclusive. Witness reticence is a critical concern.

IG Kanja admitted many potential informants have been unwilling to cooperate, hampering progress. Key documents and evidence are being sifted through by the DCI team. Authorities describe these materials as “very useful,” though sensitive. Amin declined to disclose specifics.

Why This Case Is Explosive.

Mbobu’s murder has shaken confidence in public safety. A lawyer walking on a public road shouldn’t fear for his life. This crime is seen by many as an attack not just on one man, but on the rule of law itself.

Political and public pressure has grown. Media, civil society, and legal professionals are demanding transparent investigations and fast accountability. The failure to deliver on those could intensify unrest. The case threatens to expose networks of influence, silence, and intimidation—if the leads turn into convictions.
